How SafeHold Works

SafeHold is a Nigerian escrow platform that protects online transactions between buyers and sellers. When a buyer pays through SafeHold, funds are held securely by Paystack — a CBN-licensed payment processor — until the buyer confirms delivery. The seller receives payment only after the buyer is satisfied.

How SafeHold works for sellers

  1. Create a deal link (60 seconds)
  2. Share the link with your buyer
  3. See the funds locked in your dashboard
  4. Ship with confidence
  5. Receive payment after buyer confirms

How SafeHold works for buyers

  1. Open the deal link from the seller
  2. Review the deal terms and description
  3. Pay — your money is locked, not spent
  4. Receive your item
  5. Confirm delivery to release payment

What happens if something goes wrong

If a buyer or seller runs into a problem — the item was not as described, it never arrived, or there is a disagreement about what was promised — either party can raise a dispute while the deal is active. Raising a dispute immediately freezes the funds; nothing moves until the case is resolved.

SafeHold's admin team reviews the evidence both sides submit — photos, messages, tracking information — against the deal's original description and terms, then makes a final, binding decision. Standard dispute resolution takes up to 48 hours. For urgent cases, either party can pay ₦3,000 for premium resolution with a 4-hour response time and a named mediator.

What if the buyer does not respond?

Every deal has an inspection window that starts once the seller marks the item as shipped. If the buyer does not confirm delivery or raise a dispute before that window closes, SafeHold automatically releases the funds to the seller — buyers cannot withhold payment indefinitely by simply going silent.

A reminder SMS goes out to both parties when the window is about to close, so buyers get a final chance to act before the auto-release happens.
